Funding Local Charities in Surrounding Communities
VANCOUVER, WA—May 11, 2018— Every year, Wilbur-Ellis, through its Impact Funds Program, allocates funds for contributions that benefit the communities where its employees work and live. These Impact Funds can create a sizable impact, and over the course of 2017, Wilbur-Ellis’ Feed division donated $35,000 to various local charities in Holtville, California; Halfway, Oregon; Portland, Oregon; Ogden, Utah; Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; and Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
$1,500 was contributed to the Holtville Athletic Club, located in Holtville, California. Known for its Rib Cook-Off Extravaganza, all net proceeds of the event were earmarked to benefit area youth athletic and educational activities throughout the Imperial Valley community in southern California. $10,000 was contributed to the Oregon Wildlife Foundation, directed to the Lower Clear Creek Restoration Project in Halfway, Oregon. The project is focused around revegetation, fencing, fish structures and creek bank stabilization efforts of a two-mile section of the Clear Creek area that was affected by a flood in 2010. In solidarity with Wilbur-Ellis Feed’s generous donation, the Oregon Wildlife Foundation is contributing an additional $5,000 to the project.
$3,000 was contributed to Fences for Fido. Located in the Portland Metro area, Fences for Fido is a nonprofit that builds fences at no cost for families who keep their dogs on chains, tethers or in small enclosures. The organization also provides insulated dog houses, spay and neuter services and emergency veterinary care. Wilbur-Ellis Feed’s donation will provide five local dogs with fences and accompanying services.
$3,000 USD, equivalent to $4,052 CAD, was contributed to McMan Youth, Family and Community Services Association, located in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The organization serves those experiencing extremely low incomes and homelessness. Wilbur-Ellis Feed’s donation will go towards McMan’s Homeless Initiative, aiding in the process of transitioning families into permanent housing. This initiative impacts the lives of nearly 1,500 individuals in the community every year.
$7,500 was contributed to the Weber School District, a Google Partnered school district in Ogden, Utah, to assist their third- to sixth-grade students by providing them with technology-based instruction experiences. Thirty-two 11” Education Edition ChromeBooks and various accessories were purchased to be used by students.
Canada, to assist with the Centre’s Pink Door Capital Campaign, which aims to secure two million dollars in funding to retrofit a new, larger and permanent shelter. The expansion will allow for an increase in beds for single women from 12 to 16 beds, add the first family shelter unit, which can accommodate 6 families, storage space for women’s belongings, and food bank services. Currently the organization provides aid for over 300 single women and over 110 families annually who face housing crises. With a strong commitment and a sense of shared responsibility for nearly a century, Wilbur-Ellis positively impacts the communities where its employees live and work, through the use of these Impact Funds.
